2012 Has Come and Gone!

I am amazed! The entire year of 2012 has passed and I can say maintaining my weight was far easier than I expeted. At the end of 2011 I said I would not post again until then end of 2012....unless something came up. Nothing did. Maintaining focus on my calorie intake and keeping it at my optimum 1,800 calories per day allowed me to enjoy the year fully and yet maintain my targeted weight.

Now for the real story. My daughter and her fiancee came for Christmas. That is to be expected right? BUT she made and brought just about the best New York style cheesecake I have ever eaten. Cheesecake is one of my weaknesses but only if it is truly the dry, crumbly NY-style. Living here in CA one does not get much of that.

They could only stay for a brief visit. That was too bad. But they did leave behind half of the cheesecake....which I managed to consume pretty quickly.....I am not sure it even made it to New Years!

Guess what. By simply adjusting other aspects of my diet over that post-Christmas week I managed to thoroughly enjoy the cheesecake and not gain the weight I normally did over the holidays. I credit this to two things. Calorie restriction certainly played a big part. The other was her secret recipe. That I won't share with you!

As with last year, I doubt there will be anything on interest regarding my habit of containing calories for the balance of the year. The good news is that it has become habit and I don't have to even think about monitoring my calories. I know intuitively what to eat, how much to eat and how to adjust for splurges (the cheesecake!). I am no longer overly concerned about my weight. Instead of its controlling me and am controlling it!
